Once I ran there with you at my side
Breathing and feet beating a staccato tempo to our ride
The wind an essence pushing deep within our souls
To touch that one place that only we, one another, would ever know
A spin and a dance, a whirling dervish in midair
And we were gone, lost like an autumn blossom in winter’s frigid breath
I saw you as in a mirror, my face reflecting back
Before we fell, laughing to the ground
Our bodies began to move, no longer so playful
In that age old dance that none had taught us
Straining and twisting, fighting this raging storm
Fabric ripping as we sought to be only Earthen bound
My heels digging deep into Mother’s dark flesh
Seeking purchase, a way to push back
Skin, so hot, burning from the outside in
Rise and fall and begin again
Your sweet breath on my cheeks, your mouth in my ear
Your body buried so deeply within me, nothing left to give
Twisting and rising, building, burning, crying out to the sky
Life’s essence pours from you to me, deep, warm, caressing inside
Flowing like God’s very own nectar, to mark, to create
How could we know? How could we know on that wild ride,
That a life, a seed, a spark would be left to grow deep inside?
Breathing and feet beating a staccato tempo to our ride
The wind an essence pushing deep within our souls
To touch that one place that only we, one another, would ever know
A spin and a dance, a whirling dervish in midair
And we were gone, lost like an autumn blossom in winter’s frigid breath
