So do you finally understand the situation?
Do you finally realize where you are?
There is no way out, there is no turning back;
there is only the present moment.
If you kill yourself
you will only come back to here.
God?
God is dead. It died
in the concentration camps in World War Two.

So do you finally understand the situation?
Do you finally realize where you are?
It took a long time for you to arrive
at the destination you created.
Yes,
you created this, you created it all;
and in the end the creator
must reside with the created.
Yes,
it took a long time for you to arrive;
and here you will stay with your creation
forever.
If you kill yourself
you will only come back to here.
Hope?
there is no hope.
Did you never read the Inferno?
for, you see, Dante was right.
Dante is here somewhere;
perhaps you'd like to meet him;
but then what would you talk about with him?
the weather?
there is no weather here;
this is Hell;
what did you expect?

So do you finally understand the situation?
Do you finally realize where you are?
You will stay here forever;
there is no escape, there is no going back;
there is only the present moment;
and this, along with other things,
will be repeated
over and over.
If you kill yourself
you will only come back to here.
Memory?
you will eventually lose your memory,
and your delusion of physical reality
will pass soon enough;
and I too will pass from your view
and your hearing.
And you will be alone,
totally alone,
with nothing but dark silence
surrounding you.
Then you will understand,
then you will realize
that there is nothing
but you
and silence
and eternity.
Welcome to Hell.

I am unashamedly bumping this prophetic piece of poetry as it is very profound; I think not enough of the poetry posted on Blues is given enough credit; for it is harder to write poetry than to write a story.

Thanks Brigit for this wonderful piece.

Thank you, Niteowl, for bumping this. Before I composed this, I was thinking: If Hell existed, what would it be like? Of what would it consist? Assuming that Hell is a place--not necessarly physical--where some would go after death, questions arise: Would it be a place of eternal torment and punishment? If so, of what would that torment and punishment consist? Or would it be a place where some go after death but no actual punishment or torment would be inflicted? Would Hell be eternal? Would there be any way to escape or be released from it? I kept thinking of these questions, and the result was Welcome to Hell. Needless to say, it's the most thought-provoking and philosophical thing I've written. I'll let the reader decide for him or herself the answer to those questions.
