View Full Version : Try something new..... let's see where it goes.
Ok, all you old fogees.. let's try naming old songs. The older the better. But you have to know who sang it and at least some of the words. I don't expect old guys like us to remember ALL the words.
Here's my shot at it:
Hey Mister Tamborine man play a song for me, I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to. Bob Dylan

Im not talking about movin in
and I dont want to change your life
but theres a warm wind blowing
the stars are out, and id really love to see you tonight
Really love to see you tonight...England Dan and John ford Coley
So he told you that you're the dream that he's been searching for
And he told you that he'd never met anyone like you before
And I can hear him telling you your lips taste just like sherry wine
But did he tell you that he's known as Johnny One Time

I'm not an old fogie but I do love many of the old songs
Way back when in '67
I was the dandy of Gamma Chi
Sweet things from Boston
So young and willing
Moved down to Scarsdale
Where the hell am I
Hey Nineteen by Steely Dan

Or for all you Benny Hill fans,
I had reached the age of fourteen,
and I had not started courting,
Mum and dad were getting worried about me,
Dad said ytou gotta get a wife,
you can't go on enjoying life,
or others will think you strange and start to frown,
I said dad why should I buy a book,
when there is a thriving lending library in the town.
Mum said Dad you got to tell him about the birds and the bees,
he said the birds and the bees and he sat me on his knee,
He said remember that picnic a while ago,
and how auntie pat and uncle joe went off into the woods together,
and how I chased old Riley's daughter
and what happened when I caught her,
I said aye he said well birds and bees does that.
niteowl you are such a hoot. I loved Benny Hill. Someone I had totally forgotten. Thank you for bringing him back to life for me.

Benny hill has always been one of my favourite misunderstood comedy characters; his outwardly male chauvanistic approach hide his love of beautiful women and if you look closely his pun is the women are always on top as the M.C.P. never quite succeeds.
Her is another one of his I remember fondly.
THe broken lovers stew.
There are nine carrots for the ring I bought for you,
Some mint for all the crazy things we meant to do,
A lettuce cos your dad would not let us alone,
I wont put in the truffles cos you got troubles of your own.
And for your cousin so santimonious,
for his some loves and fishes cos thats all he ever does.

From somewhere in my deep and dark distant memory I can recall one.
The young ones by Cliff Richards,
Darling were the young ones,
and the young ones shouldn't be afraid,
to live love while the years are young
for we may not be the young ones very long.

They say that the road
Aint no place to start a family
Right down the line
Its been you and me
And lovin a music man
Aint always what its supposed to be
Oh girl you stand by me
Im forever yours…faithfully

I hear the sound of distant drums,
Far away so far away,
and if they call
for me to go,
then I must go and you must stay,
So Mary marry me let's not wait.
For those distant drums might change our wedding date.
Jim Reeves Distant Drums.
Catch a falling star an' put it in your pocket,
Never let it fade away!
Catch a falling star an' put it in your pocket,
Save it for a rainy day!
For love may come an' tap you on the shoulder,
Some star-less night!
Just in case you feel you wanna' hold her,
You'll have a pocketful of starlight!

You used to laugh about
all the people that was hanging out,
now you don't talk so loud,
now you don't seem so proud
after having to be scrounging your next meal;
how does it feel
to be on your own
with no direction home
of complete unknown
like a rolling stone - Bob Dylan
Beneath this snowy mantle cold and clean
The unborn grass lies waiting for it's coat to turn to green
Snowbird sings the song he always sings
And speaks to me of flowers that will bloom again in spring
When I was young my heart was young then too
Anything that it would tell me that's the thing that I would do
But now I feel such emptiness within
For the thing that I want most in life is the thing that I can't win
Spread your tiny wings and fly away
And take the snow back with you where it came from on that day
The one I love forever is untrue
And if I could you know that I would fly away with you
I remember that one, niteowl.. just like it was yesterday

Cecilia - Simon and Garfunkle
Cecilia, you're breaking my heart,
you're shaking my confidence daily.
Oh Cecilia, I 'm down on my knees,
I'm begging you please to come home.

"Jingle Bells, Shotgun Shells"
Driving down the road running from the cops.
Over the ramp we go, and the car just would not stop!
Gunshots filled the air with helicopters overhead!
We have got to get out of there before the cops shoot us dead!
Oh, Jingle bells, shotgun shells.
They are after me because I shot an elf...
Oh what fun it is to kill, and keep the presents for yourself.
Jingle bells, go to hell.
Put their heads upon the shelf.
Oh, what fun it is to kill, and keep all the presents for yourself.

"One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"
She was fifteen years old, going on thirty-five, Doc, and she told me she was eighteen, she was very willing, I practically had to take to sewing my pants shut.
Between you and me, uh, she might have been fifteen, but when you get that little red beaver right up there in front of you, I don't think it's crazy at all and I don't think you do either.
No man alive could resist that, and that's why I got into jail to begin with.
And now they're telling me I'm crazy over here because I don't sit there like a goddamn vegetable. Don't make a bit of sense to me.
If that's what being crazy is, then I'm senseless, out of it, gone-down-the-road, wacko. But no more, no less, that's it.
- Jack Nicholson
